Who Are We? | Committee Series | Jill Iverson

Here at the Clipper City Co-op we strive to be open and welcoming. The "Who Are We? Committee Series" shares information about each of the Committee Members.

Nothing makes me happier that working with other positive people to grow and improve our community!

James Iverson and I moved to the area, because we got fogged in at the marina and started walking around downtown. We fell in love with the beauty and authenticity of Manitowoc and decided to put down roots. One thing I was missing was having a community food co-op, so I started asking around and found out that I wasn't the only one who felt this way. In Nov. 2012 four of us gathered for coffee. We have grown and grown, and we are on our way!

There is a great local food movement starting in our area and Clipper City Co-op will help bring it on! We have an exciting blend of talent and passion on the Clipper City Co-op Steering Committee. The right people are here and the wisdom is in the group! We hope you will join us.

Here is what I bring to the mix:

A passion for creative community building. I have been a long time volunteer and leader in many non profit and for profit organizations.

A lengthy connection to food co-ops, as an owner, manager, and supporter.

A history of working in all kinds of kitchens since before I could reach the top of the counter. From running Canadian wilderness camp kitchens, to Army wide cook of the year, to fine dining service, I have been honored to be involved in the meaningful work of feeding others

A passion for growing things. I have worked at two different CSA's and have fed my family from my own urban garden. The simple pleasures of the earth sustains me.

A great love for all my neighbors and a curiosity to know about them. I am excited about the community connections Clippper City Co-op will bring!

My creative spirit has also meant that I have been involved in the visual arts my whole life. I am also a founding member of the Lakeshore Artists Guild.

A commitment to stick it out and make it happen. It takes time to build a solid foundation for a co-op that will outlive me. I will stay at the table until I help to make it happen, after this I will stay to be part of the great democracy - using my one owner's vote to help steer our community cooperative, to someplace, who knows where?
